There are some things that annoy me about our society. I’ve learned to focus on positivity while keeping in mind the negative aspects of the world that I want to change, but lately the tension regarding race, sexuality and political views in general has really disturbed my inner peace. So, here’s what has been on my mind:

The fact that psychology as a college major is constantly looked down upon because it has “the least job opportunities” says a lot about our society. We are centered around making money and becoming less focused on our mental health. Because we can’t see the injury, we don’t believe it’s there. Depression, anxiety and even eating disorders can all be psychological and are often not treated seriously.

Why can’t we accept love into our lives? Why are we so bitter? Why are we so selfish?

Why are we still slut shaming? A woman should be able to be comfortable in her own skin just as a man can be.

If we are putting conditions on love, then we need to re-evaluate our lives.

We make life way too complicated by labeling people.

Hate comes from not being comfortable with ourselves. If we truly love and accept ourselves for who we are, we will be willing to understand others, no matter how different they are from us.

My Approach to Eating

What I eat is very important to me! I listen to my body and how it reacts to different foods. Recently I’ve been following the rule of thumb, “the simpler, the better”. I like eating simple, minimally processed ingredients. Organic fruit and vegetables are must-haves! Fruit are great for snacking, and vegetables can be used for salads and green drinks. Other food items I always have at home is cheddar goat cheese, almond butter, almond milk, protein powder, super foods like cacao nibs and goji berries, and Ezekiel bread and English muffins. The condiments I use include coconut aminos, and organic mayonnaise and mustard.

I personally prefer snacking throughout the day because it’s like having little energy boosts instead of relying on a few huge meals. If I won’t be home all day, I bring snacks like gala apples, Quest protein bars and nuts.

I DON’T deprive myself of any food I’m craving. I always have a cheat day where I’ll eat pizza or a sugary snack. If I really want ice cream but I know that dairy will make me sick, I buy coconut or almond milk ice cream. I love finding recipes for clean desserts on Pinterest!

So basically, I invest in my health by the food I choose to eat. Healthy eating becomes a habit after a while, so that your body begins to crave what will really nourish it. My tips for anyone trying to be healthy would be:

– Don’t get in the habit of buying packaged foods such as trail mix, protein bars and other healthy food brands when you can make it yourself. Usually it’s a lot cheaper to buy all of the ingredients and make it weekly or daily.

– Don’t force yourself to eat healthy foods that you dislike eating. There are yummy options out there for everyone!

– Transition to healthy options slowly! Look for alternative options for bread, cereal, ice cream, etc that contain less or no sugar and ingredients that you recognize.

– Invest in your health now instead of buying expensive medication later!

– Don’t stress! It’s easy to feel guilty about anything “unhealthy” you’re eating once you’re more aware of it. Give yourself grace and move forward.

– Slowly eliminate processed foods and replace them with simple ones! Healthy meals don’t always have to be elaborate ones.

Goodluck! 💫

Today gives me hope that the world is moving in the right direction. Today gives me hope that love will always win. If we stand up for love nothing can knock us down. They can critisize us, mock us, and say hateful things to and about us, but love is stronger than hate. Love wins. 🌈💖

Begin Again

You know when you read a quote about getting a new chance, starting over again, forgetting about the past, etc. and it inspires you but you just can’t find the momentum to begin again? I personally have always loved the idea of beginning again, the idea that your mistakes don’t define you and that every day is a new opportunity. But it’s a lot easier said than done. Why is it so hard for us? I think that it’s all in our minds. We hinder our ability to be happy again or to try a different and new approach to something. We have a negative view of ourselves because we think that’s how everyone else sees us. It’s hard for us to grow from our failures instead of wallow in them. We have to allow ourselves grace in order to move forward again, and we can’t base our self-worth on our worldly accomplishments.

There are so many things I want to do to change the world. I want every homeless person to have the opportunity to be self sufficient with food by gardening. I want every homeless dog to have a family. I want the world to have access to fruits and vegetables year round with community gardens. I want the amount of waste that the world produces with plastic bags and bottles to reduce by simply using reusable ones. I want to help people all over the world with their mental and physical disabilities. All of these things make my heart ache. I’m scared to start because every dream feels so massive because I am just one person, but devoting my life to these causes is how I want to live. And if I fail I will simply begin again.

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Roy G. Biv.”

Indigo wore her red dress that night. She reclined with our friends on the deep green lawn, pointing in silent awe at the sunset. I followed her finger to the yellow sun, dripping orange on the blue sky, spreading like beams in all directions. I was all too distracted by her. Her eyes, reflecting the tye dyed masterpiece, her lips, painted violet, faintly printed on her glass of wine.

Buying for a Cause

I love buying from companies that donate a percentage of their profits to charity. Here are a few companies I’ve purchased from:

Buddhi Box is a company that sells mainly yogi products. You can order their Buddhi boxes, either a single box each time, or a 6 or 12 month subscription. A box will arrive each month for the subscriptions, filled with organic products such as nail polish, hand sanitizer, food bars or protein packets, healthy recipes, bracelets and tea. Your purchase will benefit a different charity each month.

Kristina&co. is an Etsy shop that donates 10% of its profits to help end human trafficking. It sells beautiful stone and pearl rings, bracelets, earrings and necklaces.

PuraVida is a company that benefits artisans in Costa Rica as well as an array of other charities, such as saving the orcas, conservation, keeping the ocean clean and breast cancer. It mainly sells colorful bracelets with or without charms, and other accessories.

I really like these companies because you can wear and/or use something tangible that helps make the world better.⭐️

The Best English Muffin

imageimageThis has been my favorite breakfast/late morning snack for 5 or 6 years now. I could eat it all day. I actually did once 🙈. Haha so here are the ingredients!

1 defrosted cinnamon raisin Ezekiel bread English muffin

Any jam that is pure fruit, with no added sugar

Organic peanut butter or almond butter with no added sugar or oil

Pure honey

I love this English muffin because it’s naturally sweeted with the raisins, jam and honey and the English muffin is made with sprouted whole grains! I hope you all enjoy ✨

Tips for buying cheap, healthy food

1. Shop at multiple stores and local markets. Compare the prices of organic fruits and vegetables and keep track of what is cheaper where.

2. Shop at Marshalls and TJ Maxx, where prices are always lowered, for superfoods such as maca powder, cacao nibs, chia seeds as well as protein powders and organic virgin coconut oil.

3.  Do not bother buying food from Wholefoods or other expensive supermarkets if you can find the same exact thing somewhere else!

4. Don’t waste money on protein powder or protein bars that have added sugar and artificial ingredients.

5. Grow your own herbs.

6. Keep it simple at first. Don’t buy food that you don’t have a recipe for so that it doesn’t go to waste.

7. When buying organic produce remember the clean 15 and the dirty dozen. The clean produce has a low amount of pesticides and the dirty dozen has a relatively high amount of pesticides. So it’s worth buying the dirty dozen organically only.

I hope these help! Ill add tips later if I think of more. ☀️

Good morning!

Usually how I spend my mornings determines whether my day will be relaxed and productive or stressful and hectic. Here are some tips that have helped me to feel ready to start the day!

1. Get up earlier. This might be impossible if you don’t also go to sleep earlier. This extra hour or two gives me time by myself to fully wake up.

2. Spending time by yourself gives you the opportunity for self care. Do something right away that makes you happy. Watch a funny video, read a good book, go for a walk. Loving yourself makes it easier to love others.

3. Make your bed. This is simple, but will make you feel productive!

4. Write down everything you need to accomplish, then separate the things that can wait from the things that are stressing you out. Finish, or at least start the things that bring you stress. Your mind and body will thank you.

5. Drink a cup of tea. I like green tea because it has caffeine and I don’t drink coffee. This will help you hydrate, wake up, and cleanse your body.

6. Listen to relaxing or inspiring music to set the tone for the day.

7. Make a smoothie. They are easy for your body to digest and very easy to make. My favorite smoothies are the simple chocolate shake because the protein power keeps me full, and a green smoothie that is very detoxifying.

Super green smoothie

8 oz lemon or orange flavored coconut water

1/4 avocado

2 inch slice of cucumber

1/2 green apple

A handful of spinach

1 tsp chia seeds

Blend in blender or nutribullet!

I hope these tips helped! Have a great day☀️
